A weekend of fundraising exhibition events have helped raise the profile of Exmouth Museum’s bid to secure its long-term future.

Volunteers from the museum held a stall at the town’s kite festival and held a two-day display event at the Premier Inn, in The Esplanade.

The museum has been trying to raise £200,000 to buy their Sheppards Row home since landowner South West Water announced its intention to sell the site.

The three days of exhibitions aimed to show people what is on offer at the museum and to raise funds however trustee Peter Cowper thinks it has also raised awareness of the museum’s plight.

He said: “We saw a couple hundred people who look at the exhibition.

“The important thing about it was that very often people say they didn’t even know there was a museum in the town.

“Now we’re taking it out of the museum and showing people what we have.”

The museum has also launched a new website thanks to Exmouth-based Websites and More. For more information about the fundraising campaign go to www.exmouthmuseum.co.uk
