Motorists face finding an alternative route in and out of Exmouth on Monday morning as the A376 main road remains closed because of flood damage.

Commuters face diversions on Monday morning because the main route out of Exmouth is likely to remain closed.

The A376 Exmouth - Exeter road is closed in both directions between Summer Lane and Rivermead Avenue because of flood damage caused by heavy downpours over the weekend.

A diversion has been in place all day, Sunday November 16, via the B3179 and the B3178.

Summer Lane is open to motorists but the route has been busy due to traffic trying to avoid the A376.

Wales & West Utilities engineers were working in the area following reports of the smell of gas near the damaged road surface.

• Shortly before midnight on Saturday, firefighters rescued a man from a car in flood water at Clyst St George.

Crews were called to the B3179 road towards Woodbury, Clyst St George, at 11.47pm where they found a man inside a car stuck in floodwater.

Firefighters wore dry suits to rescue the male from the vehicle and take him to dry land.
