The fire brigade is investigating a blaze which broke out on Exmouth seafront model railway gift shop on Sunday morning. When fire crews arrived at around 7am they spotted smoke pouring from the roof of the property. Firefighters initially wore breathing apparatus and used one hose jet to tackle the blaze. Around 20 minutes after the fire was reported the crews requested the ventilation fan from Colyton. Breathing apparatus was discarded shortly after and a fire investigation officer was called for. The firefighters spent around an hour-and-a-half bringing the blaze under control. Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said 20 per cent of the first floor storage area was damaged by the fire. The remainder of the first floor, which was used as offices, was damaged by heat and smoke. A spokesperson for the fire service said the cause of the fire remained under investigation. The fire brigade said: The fire was extinguished by fire crews using a total of six breathing apparatus wearers, one main jet, one hose reel jet, a positive pressure ventilation fan and a thermal image camera to check for hot spots.
