Exmouth marathon-man Martin, 50, continues fundraising crusade

An Exmouth man who has been running a marathon a month for charity will continue his challenge into 2017.
In April this year, Martin Collins, 50, of The Marles, decided to run the equivalent of a marathon a month to raise money for prostate cancer.
Now the Exmouth Harriers member has been granted a place in the Brighton marathon in March next year, meaning he will extend his charity crusade.
So far he has raised more than £2,300 for the Prostate Cancer charity.
Martin said: “When you get to 50, you’re more susceptible to it.
“I got checked when Prostate Cancer South West was in Exeter and the volunteers there told me that these tests cost £25 each.
“Even though they ask for donations, I thought it would be a really good idea to raise money so they can pay for more screenings.”
Martin has a friend who suffers with the disease and another who previously had prostate cancer.
He has completed marathons in Paris, Milton Keynes, Giants Head, Dorset, Gloucester, Yorkshire, Dartmoor and Cornwall.
Martin will continue to run a marathon a month until he enters the Brighton event in March and is planning to enter an ‘ultra’ marathon in the summer.
“I was running for enjoyment and I went from doing nothing to running half-marathons,” Martin added.
“Over the last couple years, I’ve done six marathons. I’m 50 now and I wanted to do something to push myself a little bit harder.”
