Transplant campaigner Steve Gazzard is celebrating passing the 3,500 mark in his quest to get as many people as possible on the organ donor register.

More than 20 people signed up at the Exmouth Carnival fun day at The Strand on Saturday, taking the total to 3,511.

Steve has now set a target of 4,000 as he continues his campaign, which he started in honour of his daughter Sarah Wright, who passed away three years ago.

Sarah died while waiting for a double lung transplant.

Steve said: “I’m over the moon with the total so far. The response we had was absolutely overwhelming.

“I take it as a huge tribute to my late daughter Sarah - we have set a new target of 4,000 which we hope to achieve.”

Steve’s next transplant event, which will be his 26th, will take place at 11am in the Magnolia Centre on Saturday
