A PROUD Exmouth man enjoyed a day he said would be remembered for the rest of his life after being made an OBE at Buckingham Palace.
County councillor Bernard Hughes, of Exeter Road, was bestowed with the honour last Tuesday, October 20, in recognition of services to local government.
The chairman of Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue and one of the founding members of Exmouth Town Council, said it was a very exciting day.
"I was just so proud to have had my wife, Ann, with me and my two daughters, Alison and Dawn."
Bernard, who was among 96 people being honoured, added: "I am full of admiration for the care and attention we were given. Everyone was looked after very well by the Queens household.
