Exmouth’s library has issued more than £26,000 in fines throughout the last three years.

Statistics accrued from Devon County Council show that a whopping £83,614 in fines was dealt by seven libraries in East Devon between 2015 and 2017.

Exmouth Library tops the chart, issuing fines totalling £26,096, followed by Honiton Library (£15,870) and Sidmouth Library (£15,196).

Bottom of the list is Ottery St Mary Library, which dealt £4,727 in fines in the last three years.

However six of the seven libraries collected less fines in 2017 than in 2015.

Exmouth is included in that list, collecting £7,601 last year compared to £8,387 in 2016 and £10,107 in 2015.

Budleigh Library issued £1,758 worth of fines in 2017, £3,140 in 2016 and £2,048 in 2015.

Only Ottery’s library handed out more fines in 2017 (£1,842) than in 2015 (£1,404).
