The Exmouth Kite Festival returns to the Imperial Recreation Ground at the end of the month, following a two-year break.
The three-day festival, which started back in 2007, had to be put on hold for two years while work was carried out at the recreation ground.
This year, the kite festival organiser, Rotary Club of Exmouth and District, has combined forces with the Exmouth Festival committee, promising a bigger and better event.
The rotary club has chosen Children’s Hospice South West as its charity of choice for the event, with the festival committee choosing The Samaritans.
An open-air concert by The Wurzels will launch the event at 6.30pm on Friday, May 29, on the recreation ground.
The kite festival opens at 10.30am on Saturday, May 30, and 10-piece band Joey the Lips will be performing during the evening.
Among the many kites on show will be ‘Smorg the Dragon’ and a six-person sports display team.
Carl Robertshaw, a three-time European and British sport kite individual champion, will display his kite skills at the event.
Also, the Archant Trophy, sponsored by the Journal and The Rotary Club of Exmouth and District, will be presented to the best school supporting the festival.
Entry costs £3 for adults. Free for under 16s.
