A group of business women took part in a modern-age scavenger hunt around Exmouth.

The group of 14 were all part of the ‘Instagram Walk’ around the town organised by marketing company Imp Ideas, in Belvedere Road.

Ruth Douglas, director of Imp Ideas, said: “We work from home and know how isolating working for yourself can be so we wanted to create a fun, free event where small and solo business people could meet up, learn some skills and share ideas.

“We came up with the idea of a free event on the first Friday of each month and started with an Instagram walk.

“Many small businesses are turned off by traditional networking events, something like our Instagram walk gives them a more relaxed way to meet with other businesses and share ideas as well as learning something they can use straight away to help move their business forward.”

The walk started at the Pavilion, in Esplanade, and continued up Carlton Hill and then wound through the backstreets of Exmouth finishing at the Bumble and Bee Café in Manor Gardens.

During the walk, the business women were challenged to collect photographs for the scavenger hunt.

Some of the pictures taken include an arch, a colourful gate and a friendly resident. All entries had to be shared on Instagram.

The winning entry, shot in Louisa Terrace, was taken by Jen Harkman who runs the account @hyygelingalongtheway.

Louisa Currier, creative director of Imp Ideas said: “Instagram is becoming more and more important to small businesses as a way of sharing their work and finding new customers, but it’s still a mystery to many businesses.

“Doing the walk was a way of showing businesses how they can incorporate local images into their marketing to help their customers get to know them better.”

• Imp Ideas is holding an ‘Insta-awesome’ training workshop for small businesses and start-ups on the photo sharing app on Friday between 10am and 10.30am. For more information on the event go to www.facebook.conimpideasltd
