THE town management-sponsored ice rink, cancelled earlier this month, will be set up in the Strand in January.

A lorry transporting the rink from Folkstone for the town’s Christmas Cracker got stuck in heavy snowfall resulting in the cancellation of the feature at the eleventh hour.

Local company Exe-Treme Fun then stepped into the breach and paid for a smaller rink which will run until Christmas Eve and from December 28 until January 4.

And now the original ice rink has been rescheduled.

Suzanne Birkett, from the town council said they were disappointed that the Christmas Cracker rink had to be cancelled but said it was now going to be rescheduled for next month.

She said: ““We plan to have it over next year.

“It was disappointing it couldn’t be here at the Christmas Cracker but there was nothing we could do.

“Although we are grateful Exe-Treme Fun we just want to make clear that the ice rink currently there is not the one the Town Management booked.

“This rink is larger and we plan to have it some time in January.”

Any tokens saved from The Journal for the ice rink intended for the Christmas Cracker will be redeemable then.
