MORE than 160 youngsters flocked onboard an Exmouth boat for a bird watching trip.

Rainbows, brownies, guides, rangers, as well as their leaders and relatives, took over Stuart Lines' boat for the trip up the River Exe last Monday, organised as part of girl guiding's centenary celebrations.

For many of their girls it was their first experience of seeing the estuary from a boat.

Along with Brent Geese, Shelduck and Oyster Catchers, they were fortunate enough to see the rarer Great Northern Divers, Red Breasted Mergansers and both Green and Red Shanks. Exmouth Guiding has a number of events lined up to mark the centenary, including a ceileidh at the end of February and a day out at Escott later in the year.
