Plans for new flats in Exmouth have been recommended for approval, despite objections by town councillors.

East Devon District Council’s (EDDC) development management committee is set to rule on a proposal for 10 flats at 1 Sarlsdown Road.

Exmouth Town Council’s planning committee previously opposed the scheme, saying it would be overdevelopment of the site, would overlook neighbours, and would not comply with the Avenues Design Statement.

However, a report to the development management committee by EDDC planning officers supports approval.

The report states: “Although larger than the existing building on the site the proposed building is considered to sit comfortably within the site and be reasonable within its context.

“The design and form of the building together with the proposed materials are

generally reflective of the Avenues area.

“The orientation and layout of the proposed development is such that it is not

considered that there would be any substantive loss of privacy or unreasonable

overlooking.”
