FIREFIGHTERS from Exmouth and Budleigh Salterton will wash cars this Saturday to support the Fire Fighters Charity.

The fire crews will be training their hoses and lathering up at the Liverton Business Park fire station, in Salterton Road, from 10am until 3pm.

Topsham firefighters will also transform their High Street station into a car wash for the day.

The Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service fundraising event gives drivers across the UK the chance to brush up on their knowledge of home fire safety, while their cars receive a gleaming polish from their local fire fighters.

Donations will be collected for The Fire Fighters Charity - the official organisation which exists for injured fire fighters during their times of need, helping more than 17,000 individuals every year by providing pioneering treatment and support services.

A fire brigade spokeswoman said: "A firefighter's role naturally puts them at risk, which can occasionally lead to physical injury and emotional problems so it is reassuring that if anything was to occur they have the assistance of the charity."
