An Exmouth firefighter’s dedication to raising funds for cancer support and injured colleagues has scooped him the Journal Good Egg award.

Nigel Alford, officer in charge of Exmouth’s retained crew, has been nominated by Kim Bloxham, Exmouth and Budleigh Salterton’s Macmillan Cancer Support secretary.

Kim hopes her nomination will highlight the work Nigel and his colleagues have done, organising last weekend’s family fun event in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support and the Firefighters’ Charity.

Cancer survivor Kim said: “I am most grateful to Nigel and his colleagues for all they have done – they really were a pleasure to work with.

“This is a special year for Macmillan – it’s the charity’s centenary – and every penny we receive will help fund the practical, medical, financial and emotional support Macmillan offer to help improve the lives of people living with cancer.”

The town’s firefighters held two days of family fun over the weekend in a bid to raise more than 10,000 for the two causes.
