An appeal has been launched to recruit a new crossing patrol outside Brixington Primary School.

Police Community Support Officer Chris Ball said temporary cover had been found thanks to Pound Lane patroller John Coultard taking on the role until a permanent lollipop man or woman could be found.

He said the move meant a lack of crossing patrol at Forton Road until the Brixington Lane vacancy could be filled.

Devon County Council said a total of four school crossing patrols were required for Exmouth, available for 38 weeks a year - two at Bassett’s Farm primary and two at Brixington.

Both schools need a permanent crossing patroller for six hours a week and a reserve patroller, to be on call all year round.
