Former Exmouth Comprehensive School pupils celebrated the best days of their lives when they attended a school reunion.

Praise has been heaped on the organisers of an Exmouth school reunion which attracted 200 people keen to celebrate the best days of their lives.

Last September, Harry Fowler and Garry Lewis made an appeal through the Journal for former pupils of Exmouth Comprehensive 1972-77 to get in touch with the plan of holding the largest, single year school reunion.

Although the pair’s hopes of bringing together 500 former pupils fell short, Saturday’s reunion at Exmouth Pavilion was hailed a success by all who attended.

Garry, who now lives in the Midlands and recently underwent a heart by-pass operation, said plans are in the pipeline for a further reunion – possibly in five years’ time.

He said: “People were just talking and talking. They had to sweep up around us at 2am. It was absolutely fabulous.”

Former pupils who attended the celebrations posted praise for the pair on the reunion Facebook page.

Gary Gill, who wore an original upper school tie, to complement Harry Fowler’s original blazer and lower school tie, said: “Thanks so much Harry and Garry for organising Saturday’s reunion.

“I missed the 1995 one, so this year’s was something I was determined to attend – and I’m really glad I did. I caught up with lots of pals from the past and chatted to lots I wasn’t even friends with at the time! Well done on a great day, chaps.”

Geoff Harris posted: “Thanks guys for a fantastic night catching up with old friends and making some new ones too. See you all again in 10 years!”

Lesley Gunter said: “A very big thank you to Harry and Garry for organising a brilliant reunion – it was really great to catch up with everyone again.”

Harry Fowler said: “It was teamwork, and then the crowd that turned up made the night.”

In 1995, ex-pupil Garry Lewis spent more than 900 tracing those who joined the school in 1972-77, bringing together around 300 ex-students and teachers.
