Exmouth youngster wins regional cooking award

An Exmouth youngster has received regional recognition for his culinary skills.
Exmouth Community College pupil Bartek Golonko, 14, won the district final of the Rotary Club young chef competition held in Paignton.
After coming second to fellow community college student Kerri Browning in the local heat – organised by the Rotary Club of Exmouth and District, Bartek beat an ‘outstanding’ field of young chefs to take the top prize.
Each student has a maximum of £20 to spend on a balanced and health three-course meal.
Bartek came up with a Greek-style menu which consisted of homemade hummus with pitta bread to start, Gyro-marinated chicken with homemade Tzatziki for the main course and Halva and Mascarpone mousse with pecans and almonds for dessert.
The judges were reportedly particularly impressed with Bartek’s dessert which was described as ‘out of this world’.
He will now progress to the regional final at Cornwall College on February 2, 2019.
