THRILLED with the achievements of students in their A and AS levels, the principal of Exmouth Community College said the last academic year was an all-round successful period.

Tony Alexander said he was very proud of the college, its staff and students, not just because of exam success but for a number of reasons.

Reviewing the year, Tony explained: "We get superb support from the local community every year which enables us to improve and broaden what we offer our young people.

"Businesses help us with kits for our sport teams and individuals come into to the college to speak with students about their special skills and interests.

"Our work with local organisations such as the town council, rotary, The National Trust and the Marines, remains an area of college life which is strong and growing."

Tony said the college continued to work closely with, and support primary schools in the area.

"I mention this because I believe the college must be an integral part of the community - we have worked hard to make connections and appreciate the support we have had."

Tony added: "I am convinced that as educators we must develop our students to be well mannered, responsible and thoughtful.

"Young people should understand their heritage and the world around them. This will, when they leave school, have a positive impact on our community.

"To this end, we have a strong element of citizenship in our curriculum which we are continually developing.

"Part of this, of course, is insisting upon good discipline whilst providing the guidance and support our students need.

"The college is an exciting and dynamic part of the community and we are grateful to all those who support and assist us in our work.
