Volunteers who help keep Exmouth’s water users safe are to extend their hours to provide extra cover during the summer months.

Exmouth Coastwatch is to provide continuous cover between 8.30am and 7pm every day, between July 1 and September 3.

The group says this has been made possible by an increased number of watchkeepers, who have volunteered and completed training in watchkeeping and using the radio.

Three three-and-a-half hour watches, each with two watchkeepers, will be carried out every day.

A spokesperson said: “Exmouth Coastwatch has been aware of the number of vessels leaving earlier in the mornings and returning in the evenings outside our previous operating hours.

“We feel sure that these extended hours will provide an improved service to both the boating community and beach users of the Exe estuary.”

The group says new volunteers are always welcome.
