THE chairman of a national charity charged with keeping an eye on Exmouth’s coastline has tried to allay fears amongst local members over looming Government cuts.
At the March General Meeting attended by 35 members of the Exmouth National Coastwatch Institution they were addressed by the National Chairman Jon Gifford.
There have been concerns that if Coastguard Stations like Brixham and Portland are closed paid-for coat guards would be replaced by volunteers.
But Mr Gifford told the members that the purpose of the Search and Rescue approved NCI is to work with the Coastguard as their “eyes and ears” and not to replace them.
