EXMOUTH coastguard rescue officers on Saturday searched Sidmouth's Peak Hill area after a member of the public spotted a suspicious object in the sea.
Exmouth coastguards teamed up with Sidmouth inshore lifeboat crew to carry out a thorough search of the area, but found nothing.
Portland coastguard said the emergency call was a false alarm made with good intent.
