Exmouth Carnival is still looking for new volunteers to come forward and secure the future of the event as we know it.

As the Journal first reported last month, three prominent members of the carnival committee are standing down after this year’s carnival, in October.

Although the committee received an offer of help at events, no one has yet come forward to help with organisation, which is the key need.

Carnival secretary and treasurer Justine Payton, one of the organisers who is standing down, said: “We really need someone to come in and share the workload of preparing for fundraising events and for the carnival itself.”

Justine had hoped new recruits could come in and begin to learn the ropes ahead of the carnival’s spring fun day in The Strand on May 14.

She said: “Once that’s gone, we’re throwing ourselves into the carnival fun day [on carnival day itself, October 8].

“It would be really good if somebody could come forward in the next month or so.”

The carnival has been running for more than 30 years, and last year’s event saw more than 1,000 participants, and between 6,000 and 8,000 spectators.

Anyone interested in getting involved should call Justine on 07977 587782, or get in touch via the Exmouth Illuminated Carnival Facebook page.
