TWO carers have been honoured in the South West Care Awards 2010 for their work at an Avenues care home.

Kaisei Evans, 18 of Ivydale, Brixington, won new comer of the year while Christine Mason of Knowle was runner-up in the Care Home Activity Organiser Award for their work at Brandon House in Douglas Avenue.

Kaisei joined in August 2009 and manager Wendy Marsh said: “Kaisei is a very special care assistant, all of our residents love her and because of her unique approach, no one feels uncomfortable with her providing personal care.

“She has a very warm personality, which shines through her smile; she has just the right amount of reserve together with an openness and honesty which makes you instantly like her.”

She said of Christine: “She sees the great value and worth that our residents bring to our society, what great potential for continued growth our residents have, a life worth living instead of just waiting to die.

Christine is able to do something about them by believing the antidote to loneliness is companionship with other living things, Christine brings her trusty Labradors with her and leaves them with residents to look after in their rooms.

“All the team at Brandon House would like to congratulate them both for there achievements.”

The team is also hoping to continue there success as they are also finalists in the Laing and Buisson sponsored National Independent Care Awards for Best Care Provider, to be judged in January.
