FRIDAY'S bad weather resulted in hundreds of homes across Exmouth, Budleigh Salterton and Lymptone having their rubbish and recycling collections cancelled.East Devon District Council's waste and recycling contractors were forced to cancel the collections after heavy overnight snow caused chaos on East Devon's roads.Homes in Budleigh Salterton and Littleham went without their landfill waste collections.Instead homeowners were asked to put out bins for collection at the start of this week.Recycling boxes in Budleigh Salterton and Lympstone, due to be emptied last Friday, will now be collected on Friday, February 13, instead.The next collection for these areas will be on the following Friday - February 20 - when collections will return to the normal fortnightly cycle.EDDC's REACT team was out in force on Friday concentrating on picking up any split litter bags.Council teams were also out emptying any dog waste bins that were full or overflowing, until normal collections could be resumed.A district council spokesman said: "We apologise to residents for any inconvenience they may experience as a result of these changes. "The exceptional weather conditions mean that there are a combination of reasons why our waste contractors could not work."Some crews could not get to the depot and lorries couldn't get out."If they had got on the road, they would not have been able to get to many homes"Even if they had collected the waste, many waste tips were closed. "The roads to waste and recycling centres were treacherous and some were impassable.
