A 28-metre high observation wheel will dominate the Exmouth seafront skyline for the next two summers after planning permission was granted.

East Devon District Council’s (EDDC) development management committee voted to allow operator Mi-Wheel to site the attraction in the beach gardens between Sarturday, March 24, and September 6 this year.

The ‘big wheel’ proved popular with visitors to the town last summer and the permission will also allow the wheel to return to the same site between April 15 and September 8 next year.

At the meeting held at Exmouth Town Hall on Monday, March 5, some councillors suggested that approval should only be given for one year.

A motion to grant permission for just this summer failed by six votes to seven and councillors then voted in favour of the 28-metre structure returning to Exmouth seafront for 2018 and 2019.
