Exmouth bands help troops

A SLEW of local bands have stepped up to the plate and volunteered their services to raise money for wounded troops rehabilitation.

Up to five bands were promised by an events company in April for the Exmouth Unites event at Manor Gardens on Saturday, August 14.

But organiser Lionel Howell of the 531st Tribute Fund says he was left high and dry with just weeks to go before for the fundraiser in support of Help for Heroes.

Now rockers the Exeter Tornadoes, Monika, Kix-Bager and solo artist Mike Long have volunteered their services.

The event is from 9am to 7pm with 10 hours of music with TV and radio personality Mark Tyler as guest.

Other entertainment includes face painting for children and stalls for which people are asked to contribute £10 to run.

The event will have a fully licenced bar with food served at the Heavitree Arms.

Mr Howell said: “We want to raise as much money as possible for the charity.”
