EXMOUTH RNLI’S £150,000 appeal – to raise funds for a launch and recovery vehicle for its new Shannon class lifeboat – is coming to Budleigh Salterton this Saturday.

The lifesaving charity will be helped by a best-selling local author, who will be appearing at a RNLI coffee morning to boost donations.

The fundraising event is at Budleigh Salterton Public Hall on Saturday, 23 November, 10am-noon.

Entrance is 50p, including a hot drink.

Bestselling crime author – and Exmouth resident – Graham Hurley will be at the coffee morning, signing copies of his latest novel, Touching Distance.

The second in a series of crime novels based in East Devon, the book will be available for purchase at the event.

‘We’re looking forward to meeting Graham and hearing about the inspiration for his latest crime novel, based around Exmouth,” said Budleigh Salterton RNLI co-ordinator, Bruce de Saram.

“We’re lucky he’s available as our event is the day after his book launch. We’re hoping his presence will boost funds for our Shannon launch and recovery vehicle appeal.”

The coffee morning – sponsored by Palmer Whitton & Laing – will feature stalls selling Christmas cards, calendars and presents.

There will also be a tombola, a prize draw - with prizes donated by local retailers - plus jams, cakes, bric-a-brac and books on sale.
