BUS company Stagecoach have put up new signs and are set to move a bus stop, after route changes left bus passengers waiting for hours for services that never arrived.

In October Stagecoach made route changes to save money - including changing the route of the old 57 service that used to travel from Gypsy Lane, Brixington Lane, Jubilee Drive, down Spiders Lane before looping back onto Brixington Lane.

But the new route goes via Exeter Road - but because signs were not posted at the bus stop passengers still queued at the Gypsy Lane stop.

At one point town councillor Steve Gazzard said he had a dozen calls one weekend from angry passengers who still had no idea that the 57 bus no longer stopped at Gypsy Lane.

"The time table (at Exeter Road) has been put up, but passengers are still waiting at the Gypsy Lane bus stop for the 57 bus (three months after the changes.)

"The notice which was put up there was not very clear in its information."

He added: "have written to Stage Coach's Operations Manager asking for signs to be put up and to also see if they can move the bus stop.

"The Exeter Road stop isn't covered and is open to the elements."

Stagecoach's operations director, Richard Stevens, wrote back and said: "...to answer your observations we have now posted a notice on the Gypsy Lane stop advising passengers that it has now been moved to Exeter Road.

"However there are still school journeys that operate via Gypsy Lane, we are looking to provide a timetable case and timetable in Exeter Road.

"We have had a site meeting wit the county council...additionally we have recommended the relocation of the bus shelter at Gypsy Lane to Exeter road and discussions on this are on going."
