A wide range of music and entertainment to brighten up the long winter nights
With Christmas over and the long winter nights stretching ahead, how about some evening entertainments to brighten up the next couple of months?
The Exmouth Pavilion has a varied programme for January and February, with something for all tastes.
On Friday, January 11, there is an evening with the inspirational Simon Weston, who rebuilt his life and became a national hero after suffering horrific burns during the Falklands War.
Heavy metal fans will enjoy the AC/DC tribute band Hells Bells on Saturday 12. They play all the hits and deliver the full AC/DC concert experience complete with booming cannons and pyrotechnics at the finale.
Shh – there’s something a bit naughty, strictly for over-16s, on Friday 18. Hansel and Gretel Go Down In The Woods is an adult pantomime in which the traditional fairy tale is reworked into a raunchy plot with plenty of bawdy innuendo.
On Wednesday, January 30, the HM Royal Marines Band will perform a concert. Don’t expect an evening of military music, though; the theme of the concert is Musicals.
The world’s greatest female rock legends including Janis Joplin, Suzi Quatro, Joan Jett and Pink are celebrated on Saturday, February 2, in Women in Rock.
Friday, February 8 is the Sixties Invasion, with the songs of three of the decade’s biggest hitmakers: Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Titch; The Tornadoes; and the Foundations.
A tribute to the British-American supergroup The Traveling Wilburys takes place on Sunday, February 10. They consisted of Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Roy Orbison and Tom Petty, and produced many classic hits.
Fans of Amy Winehouse should not miss the concert on Friday, February 15. A group of musicians under the name ‘Amy’ recreate the raw emotion and flawless vocals of her music.
Strictly Nashville on Saturday, February 16 celebrates the best of American country music.
Thursday, February 21 sees a tribute to Buddy Holly and the Cricketers, and on Friday 22 there is Waterloo – a celebration of Abba. Saturday 23rd has The Exciting Science Show in the morning, with plenty of on-stage experiments and demonstrations, and in the evening the music of Katy Perry and Taylor Swift is performed in Katy v Taylor – The Showdown.
