Budleigh’s evening of India raises funds for cancer charity

An ‘evening of India’ held at the Public Hall, Budleigh Salterton, has raised £2,600 for Cancer Research UK.

A charity curry night which has become an annual event in Budleigh Salterton raised vital funds for a cancer cause.

For the fifth successive year, the Public Hall, Station Road, was transformed into a ‘taste of India’ for one night.

This year’s event, which raised more than £2,600 for Cancer Research UK, has been hailed a success by organisers.

A spokesman for the Budleigh Salterton committee for the national charity said: “The atmosphere was electric when two professional Indian dancers performed glittering presentations for the audience which was enthusiastically received by our audience.

“The meal – three curries cooked by Her Majesty’s Royal Marines and Royal Navy was authentic and delicious.

“The quiz proved demanding but fun. Whittard of Chelsea provided a tea tasting which was very much enjoyed by all.

“The evening was capped off by a Bollywood lesson by the dancers with hilarious results.”
