One wonders how many people in years gone by have moved to the Budleigh Salterton area to enjoy its untimely atmosphere and beauty and then promptly tried to change everything.

The thought of a sculpture along the seafront makes me shudder, even though I am an artist myself. This lady sculptor can put such things in every other town in England if she likes, but never on Budleigh promenade.
She says that "what Stratford appreciates, Budleigh doesn't" - too right! The two towns are utterly and completely different from each other and I am sure the residents of Budleigh would not want to go to live in Stratford.
Budleigh has natural unspoilt attributes that Stratford will never have. If she wishes to appreciate architecture in an urban area, maybe she ought to live in that environment, but we want to keep Budleigh as it is.
This does not mean the town cannot see some modern changes, but in the right places, and just because we do not want seafront sculptures or large cafes, it does not mean the town will die.
Contrary to this lady's opinion, Budleigh promenade does not need enhancing - it is beautiful as it is and very precious.
