Former Sidmouth Herald editor Emma Cooling, of Otterton, has teamed up with her cousin and de-clutter queen to pen a self-help book.

Start With Your Sock Drawer, a simple guide to living a less cluttered life, gives a host of tips and steps to ridding homes of the clutter and stuff people accumulate over the years.

Emma’s cousin, Vicky Silverthorn, a professional organiser and de-clutterer, started her business, You Need a Vicky, in 2010, after 10 years of working as a PA for names including pop star Lily Allen.

Since then, she has reorganised the lives and homes of broadcaster and TV presenter Jonathan Ross, Danny Care, an England rugby union player, La Roux singer Elly Jackson, actor Jamie Dornan and musician Rumer.

Vicky thanked her cousin, mum-of-three Emma, who trained to be a journalist at Highbury College, Portsmouth, for turning her self-help mess-minimising ideas into a book for all to achieve.

She said the book would not have been possible without Emma’s input. Vicky said: “When it came to the task of writing a book, there was never any question of who would help me.

“She translates my thoughts and words like no one else could.”

Start With Your Sock Drawer, the simple guide to living a less cluttered life, published in paperback by Sphere, is £12.99.
