After a necessary break of two years, Exmouth Musical Theatre Company (EMCo) are back – and wow!
The final performance of their show 9 to 5 on Saturday, November 27, was fast-paced, fizzing with energy and just fabulous!

Six months of hard work by the director and choreographer, musical director, musicians, cast and crew, with the added challenges of rehearsing in a Covid-safe manner, resulted in a brilliant show. The enthusiastic response and applause from the audience were well deserved. It is incredible how they reach the level of excellence they do when the first time it is all put together on stage is two days before curtain-up.

The choreography of the numerous scene changes was every bit as slick as the dance choreography. Every single member of the company remained focused and in character throughout the show. The principals worked well together and were all perfect in their roles – word-perfect, note-perfect and step-perfect. Their characters were well developed and differentiated and accents were sustained throughout.

All the costumes were exactly right for the 1980s period and for each character and there were some very impressive quick costume changes. The band were excellent - again incredible how they managed to perform as one with the singers when they only came together once before the show opened. The lighting was effective and supported the transition from one scene to the next – the colour co-ordinated zig-zag lighting on the back wall worked well.

We are so lucky to have such a talented company providing us with first-class musical theatre on our doorstep.
