Exmouth Beach Rescue Club volunteers thanked Councillor Eileen Wragg for funding three new surf skis - by naming one after her.

The new equipment was made possible thanks to cash from Cllr Wragg’s locality budget.

She said she was ‘touched’ by the unexpected gesture of naming the surf ski in her honour.

Cllr Wragg said: “The club has some wonderful volunteers who work year-round to maintain their fitness to keep people safe on our beach during the summer. It draws youngsters and adults alike, and is an essential provision to our wonderful beach.”

Keith Hoppins, the club’s gear steward, said the new equipment was the ‘cutting edge’ of ski development.

The club revealed how some members are gearing up to compete in the Epic Bay Oceanski Race, being held on Saturday, June 17.

The race, hosted by Exmouth Beach Rescue Club, is part of the GB Ocean Ski Series.

“This will be the first time a part of the series has come to Exmouth and club members are looking forward to competing with some of the country’s elite,” a club spokesperson said.
