Marpool Primary School has won a national award for its work supporting children learning to read.

The school has been named as a Reading Recovery School of the Year at an awards ceremony in London.

Reading Recovery is a programme which provides specialist help to pupils so they can catch up with the reading abilities of their classmates.

Marpool Reading Recovery teacher Tina Tapp said: “We are so proud to win the award. We know that all children need to read fluently in order to succeed.”

Headteacher Rachel Pattison said: “The work of Reading Recovery is crucial and underpins reading throughout the school.”
