World Cup fever has gripped young rugby players from St Peter’s Primary School.
The school took on others from East Devon in a tag rugby contest in Sidmouth.
This was organised by the Exeter Castle Festival of Rugby, which is holding events ahead of the Rugby World Cup, which will be held later this year, and will include three games played at Exeter Chiefs’ Sandy Park ground.
Teacher Janet Lewis said the year four pupils, taking part in their first competition, had reached the semi-finals, playing with ‘skill and speed’. She added that the pupils had been taking part in the Aviva Tackling Numbers programme, which combines learning to play tag rugby with maths activities, with coaching from Exeter Chiefs’ community coach Thomas Viljeon.
