Pupils at Exmouth Community College raised more than £1,000 to help bring an end to polio.
The pupils made donations to Rotary International’s End Polio Now campaign, in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Exmouth and District, in return for wearing their own clothes on a ‘mufti’ day, and raised £1,482.
Pupils gave their support after being presented with information about the campaign, which aims to eradicate the disease by 2018, with each donation being matched two-to-one by Bill Gates.
The mufti day is the latest collaboration between the college and Rotary Club, with some of the college’s talented musicians recently having performed in the local heat of the Rotary in Britain and Ireland Young Musician competition.
The two winners, oboe player Matthew Jackson and singer Keira Howatson, will go forward to represent Exmouth in the district round on March 8.
