An Exmouth pre-school is celebrating after receiving a ‘fantastic’ report from Ofsted inspectors.

Brixington Pre-school, based at Knappe Cross Community Centre, was recently visited by the schools inspection agency, and in the subsequent report received a rating of ‘good’, with the preschool’s staff receiving high praise.

The report states: “Staff provide a welcoming and interesting environment for the children to explore and investigate purposefully.

“The management and staff are very committed and dedicated to providing high-quality care and education.

“Staff know the children extremely well. They accurately assess what they know and can do, and make good use of this information to plan a range of challenging experiences and activities.

“As a result, children make good progress in all areas of learning.

“The management and staff are very committed and dedicated to providing high-quality care and education.

“They reflect on their practice and work in partnership with parents to drive improvement.”

Reacting to the report, pre-school manager Lorraine Dorling said: “We are delighted. We’ve got a fantastic staff team who work tirelessly to provide a high level of education for children that come through.

“The inspection is unannounced, they just turn up on the day, and we have excelled, really.

“We have got a fantastic report, and the summary of findings at the front just says it all.”

The pre-school, which has 31 children on its register, and can cater for two-year-olds with Government two-year-old funding, has been established since 1973.

It has been part of the Pre-school Learning Alliance since 2004.
