New sports facilities at Exmouth Community College have been officially opened by a former Olympic athlete.
Vernon Samuels, who represented Great Britain in the triple jump at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, cut the ribbon to open new jump pits at the college, for pupils to practise triple and long jumps.
During his visit, Vernon also spent time working with a number of PE students and, having opened the pits, looked on as a number of youngsters braved windy conditions to try them out, making some impressive jumps.
Vernon was said to have ‘really enjoyed’ working with the youngsters, who he had found to be welcoming, engaged and keen to ask questions.
