A NEW foot and cycle path could be built, linking A la Ronde and Lower Halsdon Farm – if enough Exmouth residents vote for it.

Purveyor of hot-beefy drinks Bovril, ‘the champion of the outdoor life’ has decided to ‘do up’ Britain and wants suggestions from the public what for what deserves a makeover.

If enough votes are received, be it a dishevelled dry-stone wall, a rickety jetty, a rundown inner-city playground or a campsite in disrepair, it could be revived with a share of a 100,000 pot.

Between October 2009 and March 2010, Bovril will be choosing five Great Outdoors projects that will each benefit from a share.

And the National Trust think that a footpath and new cycle route linking A la Ronde and the land bequeathed to them at Lower Halsdon Farm is what is needed.

It would add to the existing cycle route that runs parallel to the River Exe through Lympstone and Exton.

Town Clerk John Wokersien said: “It would be great for the National Trust to win a grant to put in a cycle/footpath link to the cycle track.

“It seems such a good idea to get to A la Ronde on foot or bicycle.”

Nicola Perryman of the National Trust said: “Please help us to get a footpath between A la Ronde and Lower Halsdon Farm.

“All you need to do is go on line and vote for us at the link below.”

The first three winning projects will be announced in January 2010, and will directly benefit the camping, angling and rambling communities. Another two judges’ choices will then be selected in March 2010.
