Pupils from Exmouth Community College got an exciting look at the world of business when they visited an international trade show.
The pupils attended the Food Matters Live conference at The ExCeL, in London, with Devon firm LittlePod.
The trip came about through the Enterprise Adviser Network, a new project that aims to improve careers provision for young people by recruiting business volunteers to work with schools across Devon, Somerset, Plymouth and Torbay.
Janet Sawyer, managing director of LittlePod, who started working at the college as a volunteer enterprise adviser in September, set up a competition for its business studies students, asking them to design an interactive portal for LittlePod’s exhibition stand.
The winners were selected by a panel of experts and the winning design was used at the event.
The pupils were given special permission to attend the event, as normally entrance is only available to over-18s.
At the exhibition, the pupils were presented with a LittlePod Enterprise Award for their work.
While in London, they were also invited to visit the HSBC headquarters in Canary Wharf, enjoying a guided tour and business brunch.
Janet said: “This was a wonderful opportunity for the students, who had the chance to experience a large corporate event and see how business works internationally.”
