Pupils at Exmouth Community College have done their bit to help encourage wildlife in the East Devon countryside.

The college was approached by National Trust ranger Ruby Cole, based at Exmouth’s Lower Halsdon Farm.

She asked if a group of pupils could make some bird box kits for members of the general public to assemble at one of the charity’s activity days.

A year nine technology group made 22 kits, which Ruby then collected, having given a talk on the types of birds who were likely to use the boxes. The pupils are now due to visit the farm to help out with practical tasks such as hedge laying, tree planting, ditch clearing and preparing a new footpath.

They will also be linking up with the forest school which Exeter Road Primary School has set up at the farm.
