Exmouth Community College has been awarded a £10,000 grant by county bosses to help the town's schoolchildren learn about business.

The college received the grant from Devon County Council as part of the council’s Enterprising Schools project.

The Exmouth project will start with post-16 students being trained by business consultants Optimise 4, giving them the skills to go out to primary schools in the town, delivering enterprise workshops, focusing on healthy lifestyles.

A winning team will be selected in each school, which will receive a cash prize allowing them to run a mini-enterprise for a couple of months, with support from the college.

They will then meet up for a celebration event to display what they have learned, and receive a further grant to set up and run an enterprise club or activity in their school.

A college spokesman said: “The college, through head of business David Hackett, has worked hard for this grant and would like to thank local businesses and the chamber of trade and commerce which have been very supportive of the developments in business education at the college.”
