Brixington Primary School pupils are ‘wizard’ at chess

Pupils from Brixington Primary School looked to Harry Potter when they became human chess pieces.

The school’s chess club gleaned the idea from the fictitious wizard - when Harry and Ron played wizard’s chess in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone - and chalked out a giant chess board in the playground.

Teaching assistant Joy Davis said: “The Brixington chess club has had a great year, teaching new members how to play the game. They thought it would be great fun to end the year becoming chess pieces themselves.

The year six chess monitors used their problem solving skills, to chalk out a giant chess board on the playground. Other children made headdresses for all the different pieces. The games were great fun and both sides got a win.”
