Pupils at Exmouth Community College have been given an insight into how Parliament works by a member of the House of Lords.
Baroness Watkins of Tavistock, who is also emeritus professor of nursing and deputy vice-chancellor at Plymouth University, spoke to pupils about the house’s role in the law-making process.
She was made a life peer in 2015, and sits in the House of Lords as a crossbencher.
A spokesperson for the college said: “Our students were lucky to have the opportunity to learn from, and question, such a prestigious guest who was most approachable and open in her address to the students.
“Her introduction was accompanied by slides illustrating the work of the Lords. “After her initial talk the baroness took questions from the students which were answered in a most engaging manner giving a real insight into an important institution which is often misunderstood.”
