A new scheme is set to give young people in Exmouth a say in local projects.

The town council is planning to set up an Exmouth Youth Council, which will come up with and implement projects they would like to see in the town, with council funding.

The scheme will start with year eight and year 10 pupils at Exmouth Community College, but could be extended to Exmouth children at other schools in future. It will begin in February, and will see tutor groups, through discussion and voting, and support from a steering group which includes councillors, identifying three projects they would like to see implemented.

There would then be a half-day youth council forum to vote for the preferred project. The town council has allocated 4,500 in its draft budget to finance the scheme.
