Youngsters in the Exmouth area are being given a great chance to make some noise and get into music.
The Big Brass Project sees primary school pupils getting the opportunity to play brass instruments.
Normally expensive to buy, these are obtained either from Devon County Council, with funding received by the schools, or from Exmouth Light Orchestra, which has made donations.
With instruction from tutor Pete Manfield, pupils learn their instruments and how to read music from scratch in a single term, reaching a level where they can put on a concert with six to eight different tunes.
Schools which have taken part so far include Marpool, Bassetts Farm, Drake’s and Otterton.
Mr Manfield said: “It’s been brilliant – been absolutely out of this world.
“The children are learning as a class, learning to play as a team, which means they have to learn control, and have to be able to not let their friends down, and play their best.
“The take-up has been brilliant. The idea is that they will go on to orchestras and things like that.”
