Twelve local families whose children attend Exeter Road Community Primary School ‘graduated’ on May 4, from an inspiring education programme.
The programme, developed by Save The Children is proven to help children achieve more in school and Exeter Road was one of three Devon schools running the programme this term.
The nine-week Families and Schools Together (FAST) programme, helps parents support their children’s education by strengthening relationships within families, between families and between families and schools.
Families take part in a range of activities including singing and playing games, which encourage communication skills. Families also come together to prepare and share a family meal, offering each other support and ideas in setting boundaries. All activities are based on 20 years of evidence about what works in helping parents help their children to succeed.
Head of FAST at Save the Children said: “FAST has been so phenomenally successful and the feedback we get from schools and parents is always so positive. The programme has been a great success at Exeter Road Community Primary School. Parents have the biggest influence on their children’s learning and development and FAST gives families the opportunity to build on this. We believe that every child should have a fair chance to do the best they can at school and that every family should have access to proper support in their local area.”
A member of staff at the School said: “This FAST programme is an innovative, exciting and fulfilling programme which was delivered by a team of parent, community and school partners. The FAST programme has been a great success and we would like to thank all the families who participated over the nine weeks. We would particularly like to thank Martin Graham from Training4Events for delivering a fun, interactive session on first aid which everybody thoroughly enjoyed. Also the Exeter branch of Wilkinsons for their financial support with the weekly prize hampers won by each family over the course of the programme.
