SHOCKING new figures show that more than half East Devon drivers have unwittingly driven while over the limit - after drinking the night before.

Every year more than 180 people in East Devon are convicted of drink driving offences facing a driving ban, a large fine and possible imprisonment.

And a survey carried out by AlcoSense revealed almost one in five of these convicted drink drivers are caught the morning after.

While in another survey 56 per cent of East Devon drivers had unintentionally driven the morning after whilst still being over the drink drive limit.

A spokesman for AlcoSense said: "With the belief that strong coffee and a cold shower can speed up the sobering process we may begin to see an increase into the amount of drink driving related accidents taking place the morning after the night before, especially when nationally 58 per cent of people believe that they would not be stopped by the police the morning after.
