THE bad weather has forced East Devon District Council's waste and recycling contractors to cancel today's collections.

THE bad weather has forced East Devon District Council's waste and recycling contractors to cancel today's collections.

There will be no landfill waste collections in Budleigh Salterton and Littleham today, Friday.

Instead homeowners are being asked to put out bins for collection on Monday of next week when, weather permitting, they will be collected.

Recycling boxes in Budleigh Salterton and Lympstone, due to be emptied today, will now be collected on Friday February 13 instead.

The next collection for these areas will be on the following Friday February 20, when collections will return to the normal fortnightly cycle.

EDDC's REACT team will be out and about in the district today, concentrating on picking up any split litter bags that they find.

Dog waste bins may not be emptied according to the normal schedule.

But council teams will also be out and about emptying any dog waste bins that are full or overflowing.

A district council spokesman said: "We apologise to residents for any inconvenience they may experience as a result of these changes.

"The exceptional weather conditions mean that there are a combination of reasons why our waste contractors cannot be working today.

"Some crews cannot get to the depot. Lorries can't get out of the depot.

"If they did get on the road, they would not be able to get to many homes

"Even if they could collect the waste, many waste tips are closed.

"The roads to waste and recycling centres are treacherous and some are impassable.
